Serra do Cipó

Pousada Chão da Serra, where we stayed.

Pousada Chão da Serra

The owner of Pousada Chão da Serra showed us this fruit tree on the grounds and invited us to eat some berries, so we did. They were good! I've since learned that this is Jaboticaba (Myrciaria cauliflora). It is native to this area of Brazil, but can be grown in the southern US.

The hunt for the Cipo Canastero

The Cipo Canastero is a rather plain little bird, but what is extraordinary about it is that it is extremely rare—so rare and so retiring, and found in such a small area, that it was not discovered until 1985. We very much wanted to see one and spent about 10 hours over two days in an unsuccessful search. But here's its cerrado habitat where we were searching.
