Snow Buntings inhabit treeless areas and nest in rock crevices. They have learned that birdhouses are acceptable substitutes for rock crevices. This is the only pole-mounted house that I noticed, however many houses (human houses) had Snow Bunting houses attached directly to the walls -- they are thought to bring good luck.
