eBird hotspot needs alert

hotspot

This application allows you to get a needs list for a hotspot.

Begin by getting the URL for the hotspot page. One way to do this is to go to https://ebird.org/hotspots and enter the hotspot name. On the hotspot map that you then get, click "View Details". This will take you to a page with a URL similar to https://ebird.org/hotspot/L97555. Copy and paste this URL into the form above, and click "Go!". This will give you a "target list"; species reported at the hotspot that you have not seen there. You can adjust the parameters in different ways, for example to restrict the list to your year list, etc.

Click "Needs Alert" to get a page listing observations, if any, of needed species in the last 7 days. On this page you can subscribe to the alert if you like.

Questions or comments?

/* Sarah Toner (March 2019) Yes, there is a way to manipulate the URL. Basically, pull up the URL of the hotspot on "explore hotspots" and look for "L######" (string of numbers). Copy that L######. Then, pull up a targets list for the state or county the hotspot is in. Find the phrase "&r1=" in the URL of that targets list and delete everything after it, pasting in L######. If you click on the option to "View Needs Alert," you can set up email alerts. */
